meliorism – 6 people though therapy – reg and sally’s story

good morning bigmoose chum,

before i tell you a story i heard this week, i have two things to share with you.

one, a couple of weeks ago i put a monthly donation shout out here on the blog, and a number of you signed up, and we have boosted our monthly donations by £185, which is £2220 annually, which working on average costs will nearly pay for six people to complete a full course of therapy, so a huge shout out to those people that signed up, you’re really making a big difference, and for anyone inspired by this, there is a link below for you to join in and help.

two, somebody said to me this week that me and chloe are meliorists, which i had to look up, but i’m proud to agree, but would like to suggest that you too by regularly showing up here every week, you are practicing meliorism, and you didn’t even know.

i love being a meliorist, don’t you.

talking of acts of kindness this leads into my story quite nicely.

one sunny day, an elderly gent called reginald, reg to his friends was travelling back from a hospital appointment with his wife of 53 years, sally anne, in their silver honda jazz.

sally had been for an appointment to see if her cancer had returned, but thankfully the news was good, and the relief they both felt was palpable.

“shall we stop for a mcdonald’s to celebrate?” reg asked his life partner.

“that’s a lovely idea reg,” sally replied, and reg duly indicated left and proceeded to the the drive through window.

“what shall we have?” asked reg as the voice asked “may i take your order?”

sally and reg discussed what to have, but before long the car behind started to hoot impatiently.

reg started to get flustered, and sally said “quick let’s decide reg, we’re holding everyone up.”

the car behind hooted more, and reg could see the woman in the car gesticulating and now shouting out of her window, “hurry up, we’re all hungry” she shouted.

reg, by this time was getting anxious, it had been an emotional morning, and he rushed his order through, and drove to the collection window as quickly as he could.

sally sat silent as reg spoke to the cashier to pay for his food, “i’d like to pay for the car behinds food as well please.”

sally smiled, at her husbands generosity, and the way he was handling the situation with kindness.

“if you drive to the collection window, you’re food will be ready shortly, have a nice day,” the teller said.

“thank you, i will,” said reg, as he slowly manoeuvred forward to hand in his order receipt.

the woman in the car behind, now being told of reg’s kind action leaned out of her car again, only this tiime to shout “thank you.”

as the mcdonald’s employee informed reg. here was his food, and the food for the car behind, reg calmly said “i’ll take it all thank you,” smiled at sally, and drove out.

“reg you are naughty.”

“i know,” he replied.

now i would have paid to see the car behinds face when she realised what had happened, just imagine.

so, thanks for reading, i hope reg’s story made you smile, and here is that monthly donation link, you can give as much or as little as you can afford, everything helps, and thank you in advance.
