failure – swim with the waves – relentless drive

so i flew to canada to do my body language course, and meet the billionaire.

was it a success or a failure?

well, before i answer your question, i want to tell you about three books i recently bought.

the first one was a very short read, and i questioned it a number of times before i finished it.

but its the afterglow that’s important.

there is a lovely substory about the writer, who was snorkelling off the coast of hawaii, and found herself about 100ft from the shore, swimming in the warm clear water, and seeing for the first time a spotted purple eel and then a huge octopus, her day was proving to be exhilarating, all my words not hers.

as she swam further out, she dived a little deeper, through some rock structures, and as she looked around she discovered a large green sea turtle swimming next to her.

she had never seen one in the wild before, so she was ecstatic.

she rose to the surface to clear her snorkel, and floated on top of the water so she could watch him.

he was right underneath her and moving away from the shore, so she decided to stay on the surface and swim with him.

to her surprise, although he appeared to be moving pretty slowly, sometimes paddling his flippers, and other times just floating, she couldn’t keep up with him.

she was wearing fins which aided her propulsion through the water, but he kept moving further ahead, even though she was trying hard to keep up.

after ten minutes of exertion, she lost him.

the next day she returned to the same spot, and sure enough, after a while there appeared a large green sea turtle, and again she tried to follow him as he swam away from shore.

only this time as he pulled ahead of her, she stopped paddling and just floated, watching him.

here comes the life lesson.

when she watched this beautiful creature doing what it was born to do, she noticed that it linked its movements to the movements of the water.

when a wave was coming at him, he would float, and paddle just enough to hold his position.

when the pull of the wave was behind him though, he’d paddle faster, so that he was using the movement of the water to his advantage.

he never fought the waves, instead he used them.

he optimised his movements with the movements of the water.

oh my, the metaphors just keep coming.

essentially, if you aren’t in tune with your environment you can waste a lot of energy trying to get ahead.

in relation to my course i attended in victoria, it was brilliant, i learnt so much, well worth the time, energy and expense.

did i get a chance to chat to the billionaire as anticipated?

no.

did that make the trip a failure?

categorically no.

it transpires his wife had given birth to their daughter the night before, and although he was at the course, he left early, understandably.

so i didn’t fight the waves.

whilst on the course though, i met a guy who was sat next to me, and we got on really well, and he very kindly drove me back to my hotel, and we met for breakfast the next morning.

we have clicked from a business and life point of view, and i’m gonna take that very much as a win.

you’ve gotta swim with the direction of the waves.

the other two books i have picked up are ‘relentless’, and ‘raise your game’, and after bezos delivered them, i did a reflection, and laughed.

from an early age, in my teens, i have read books by captains of industry, inspired to hone my entrepreneurial skills.

and here i am, at an age where others in my age group are looking at slowing down, looking to rev my engines even more, and keep developing, learning, and improving, allowing my world to flourish, and hopefully benefit from my energy.

relentless is brilliant, and has a lovely sentence at the beginning, which says “to overcome whatever obstacles are standing between you and your goals, you just need to have a relentless drive for the end result, and let nothing stand in your way of achieving it”.

amen to that.

the coffee has kicked in.

watch this space……..

i mentioned a potentially huge telephone call for chloe and i last friday, and after landing at heathrow, craving good food and sleep, and after travelling for almost 20 hours the call came around 7pm.

whilst tired, and somewhat jet lagged, the happy face of peter, the head of a group that has provided us with significant funding for the last four years, with an arrangement that finishes next year, was a pleasant sight.

pleasantry’s exchanged, peter effervescently told us that he was super excited to tell us that a decision has been made internally to continue supporting us financially for another three years.

whilst i can’t divulge the numbers, it’s big, and will help us continue saving lives, thanks peter.

long blog today.

to wrap up today, i am heading off to london today to meet the mayfair gallery owner, who called me yesterday to tell me has some exciting news to tell me, so what a great way to end the week, i’ll share details next week, but art4good seems to be building momentum, i love my life.

so in conclusion today, be relentless with driving for what you want to achieve, swim with the waves, and you never know, you might just become someone else’s genesis story.

blue skies,

jeff
