chloes’ epiphany – video of kidney operation – we heart sydney

thank you for all your lovely messages last week wishing chloe well, she’s doing great.

so is crawfy her donor partner, and he is now patting his scars from the operation in a way that makes chloe wince every time he does it.

she is now living with me and tan, so we can care for her, and our evening regimen consists of eating dinner, then retiring to the bedroom where chloe is currently residing, where we all get comfortable to watch some form of easy to watch t.v. together, to which i protest at watching, but secretly love.

tan and i have seen the most amazing improvements this week, with wednesday, chloe’s 31st birthday being the day she almost had an epiphany, reflecting on how she had been operating pre op, at full speed and capacity, almost trying to show herself that she could still “do it” even with only 15% kidney function, to the the realisation post op that to operate most effectively, she needs to work and live within the boundaries of kindness to herself, my words not hers, but i think chloe 2.0 with sydney installed as an upgrade is going to be so much more powerful, with a new found strength, and personally i cannot wait to watch her grow into the person she is destined to be.

it is still baby steps with regards to her recovery, but we are witnessing green shoots every day, it’s wonderful to watch, and if you look at the before and after pic here, the improvement is amazing.

with chloe in recovery we are heading towards our biggest fundraiser to date, project 1 million 2.0. and now is the time for our team to shine, and this week has seen them all drive the quest to get 100 bikes, riding for 24 hours in teams, fundraising as they go, and we are currently on 70 bikes, but we are keeping on pushing to reach the magic 100 number, wish us luck.

so if you are reading this and think you can help us get to our goal by introducing us to someone who might want to take a bike, either message me, or if you feel so inclined to join us on what is going to be the greatest fundraiser ever, please sign up here.

i am very aware that my blogs have been very focused on chloe’s transplant but hopefully it is an honest description of what is happening to a parents daughter, and a charity’s chief operating officer, and the impact health has on us all, in many different ways, and also how phenomenal the human body is at recovering from major operations, and now it’s over, i have been brave enough to watch a kidney transplant operation, and if you want to watch 6 minutes of what chloe has gone through, check this out.

watch how a kidney transplant is done

that was fun wasn’t it?

quite amazing though.

so to wrap up today, another health improvement that is happening in my world is running.

i have started back running, and am on day 47 of a programme to get to run a 50k run in december, and have gone off the booze, and chocolate as well.

i have been feeling so much better health wise, and one of the signs of parkinsons is that writing becomes difficult, and i had noticed how really bad my writing was becoming, but on wednesday i wrote chloes birthday card and both tania and chloe commented on how normal my writing was, interesting, and rewarding in equal measure, and at long last a realisation that exercise works, ok i know i know, i’ll feel your judgement already.

i hope you’ve had a good week, and i’ll leave you with a quote i saw this week ‘i can’t change the direction of the wind, but i can adjust my sails to always reach my destination’.

blue skies,

jeff

p.s. club tropicana’s revenue model was fundamentally flawed. (any entertainment venue that gives away free drinks is bound to end up in financial trouble)
