30 bikes – ‘concerned’ stage – accountability

good morning,

how’s this week been?

i hope it’s been good?

mine has been fun, partly because i have a new diary.

“in july?” i fantasise hearing you ask.

yes, a new diary in july.

last year i lost my diary mid way through the year, it eventually turned up, but not before i discovered that you could buy a diary that starts any month you want.

what a world we live in.

so i now buy a july to june diary, and i love it.

it motivates me to create new habits, and hopefully see improvements, mid year.

so far i have started diarising how i’m feeling on the daily, so i can measure any reasons why there are changes, mainly to keep an eye on the rascally parkies, i wanna monitor it closely.

then i’m introducing an exercise measurement entry, to keep abreast of the effects of different types of exercise.

but probably the biggest july diary change is i’m going to finish writing my book.

this feels like the centenary of saying this, but i had a great three hour catchup with a mate this week where we updated each other on our lives, talked about our dreams and what’s important to us, and how we can help each other by becoming accountability partners.

so, on monday, as we sat on a bench overlooking the sea in barry, we made our pledges, emailing them to each other later, and one of mine is to have a first draft of my book finished by christmas 2025, and whilst i have been on this writing journey for years, we discovered, whilst sat on the sea salt covered bench, that i actually don’t want to finish writing it, in case it sucks, in case it bombs, the fear of rejection outweighing anything.

so that needs to change.

and change it will.

it’s like a new diary resolution.

i have made a couple of others, but i’ll share them another time.

sometimes i feel you just need that spark of energy, and maybe my universe wasn’t ready until now to tell my story, as there is definitely more to write about, we shall see.

so my meet up with my new accountability partner was a great kickstart to the week, and yesterday i did two talks, one to an ‘ultra’ group in bristol, and one with chloe to confused.com who are our neighbours on the floor above us in our building, and hopefully we convinced them to take a bike in project 1 million 2.0 fingers crossed, they seemed very engaged, and laughed at our jokes, which is always a good sign.

we have sold 30 bikes so far, but are way behind our target, so if you know any businesses who might want to get involved i’d be really grateful for an introduction, i’m moving into ‘concerned’ stage now, as we need more bums on bikes to bring this fundraiser together to have a chance of successfully raising a million in 24 hours.

here is some info

i have a 9am telephone call today with one of my tent mates from my 2016 marathon des sables race, who reads the blog, so i’m hoping she becomes bike number 31 (morning selina)

so for now, have a great week, i’m off to write a chapter of my book,

accountability works, maybe see if you can try it?

blue skies,

jeff

thank you
